Tumor Necrosis factor, along with natural killer cell activity, are natural protectants against foreign objects usch as infection and growth of abnormal cells such as cancer cells. Tumor necrosis factor is actually produced by natural killer cells. They obviously serve a very important function, but when present in excess can cause rejection of pregnancies. There are simple blood test that can be done to check for abnormal levels. When present in excess, the use of baby aspirin, heparin, and high dose progesterone are indicated.
